How does IV therapy work?

The process begins with a consultation where a healthcare professional evaluates your health status, medical history, and specific needs. This assessment helps determine the appropriate IV treatment for you.

Step 1: Assessment

Once a treatment is chosen and agreed upon, the necessary equipment and fluids are prepared. This includes selecting the appropriate IV solution based on your needs and ensuring all equipment is sterile and ready for use.

Step 2: Preparation

A nurse will select a suitable vein, typically in the arm or hand, and insert a small needle. Once venous access is obtained, the needle is removed and a plastic catheter is left in the vein. This allows direct access to the bloodstream for the delivery of fluids and nutrients.

Step 3: Vein Access

The IV solution, comprising fluids, medications, vitamins, and minerals, is infused into your bloodstream via a catheter in your arm or hand, connected to an IV bag. Certain medications may be administered via syringe during your session. The infusion rate varies with each treatment.

Step 4: Infusion

Throughout the session, the nurse will closely monitor your vital signs and treatment response to ensure its safety and effectiveness. This includes adjusting the infusion rate as needed and swiftly addressing any adverse reactions. They are also on hand to answer questions and manage any discomfort you may experience.

Step 5: Monitoring

After the infusion, the IV catheter/needle is removed, and the site is bandaged to prevent bleeding or infection. You'll be advised to hydrate well. Additional post-treatment instructions may be given, tailored to your health goals.

Step 6: Completion & Post-Treatment Care

IV therapy can be customized to address various health needs, such as hydration, nutrient deficiencies, immune support, energy enhancement, and recovery from illness or fatigue. By delivering fluids and nutrients directly into the bloodstream, IV therapy allows for rapid absorption and distribution throughout the body, bypassing the digestive system. This often results in quicker and more efficient benefits compared to oral supplements or medications.

NAD+

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring coenzyme found in all living cells. As we age, NAD+ levels decline, leading to decreased energy, impaired cognitive function, and other signs of aging. Restoring NAD+ levels through infusions has been shown to support optimal health and longevity. NAD+ plays a critical role in brain function and neurotransmitter production, which are essential for regulating mood and emotional well-being. NAD+ has also been explored as a complementary treatment for addiction recovery, especially for those dealing with alcohol, opioid, and other substance dependencies.

Benefits of NAD+

  • Energy production: NAD+ helps convert nutrients into energy, keeping your cells powered up and functioning efficiently.

  • Cellular repair: It aids in DNA repair, which is critical for healthy aging and cellular renewal.

  • Brain function: NAD+ supports brain health, improving mental clarity, focus, and mood.

  • Anti-aging: By enhancing cellular repair mechanisms, NAD+ slows down the effects of aging, promoting healthier skin and overall vitality.

Why Choose NAD+ Therapy?

Adding NAD+ to your IV therapy at Monsoon Wellness & Hydration offers a range of transformative benefits:

  • Boost Energy: Replenish your body’s energy stores and feel more vibrant throughout the day.

  • Enhance Cognitive Function: Improve mental clarity, focus, and memory while reducing brain fog.

  • Support Detoxification: NAD+ plays a role in cellular detoxification, helping your body eliminate toxins more efficiently.

  • Anti-Aging and Cellular Health: Fight the signs of aging by promoting DNA repair and cellular renewal.

  • Improve Mood and Sleep: Support better mood regulation, reduce stress, and improve your sleep cycle.

  • Neurotransmitter Support: NAD+ helps restore the balance of important neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which are closely linked to mood regulation. By replenishing NAD+ levels, some individuals may experience improved mood stability and reduced feelings of anxiety and depression.

  • Reduction of Oxidative Stress: NAD+ helps to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain, both of which are thought to contribute to mood disorders like depression and anxiety. By supporting cellular repair and energy production, NAD+ may alleviate some of these underlying factors.

  • Restores Brain Chemistry: Prolonged substance abuse can deplete neurotransmitters and NAD+ levels in the brain. By replenishing NAD+, it helps restore brain chemistry, which can reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

  • Reduces Cravings and Withdrawal: NAD+ therapy has been used in addiction treatment programs to reduce cravings and ease the discomfort of withdrawal, helping individuals through the detox process more comfortably.

How Long Does an Infusion of NAD+ Take?

An infusion of NAD+ can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the dosage and the patient's tolerance. Since NAD+ is infused slowly to prevent potential side effects such as nausea, cramping, or discomfort, the rate of infusion often needs to be adjusted based on how the patient feels. For individuals receiving higher doses or those new to NAD+ therapy, the infusion time may lean toward the longer end of the spectrum, around 3 to 4 hours, to allow the body to absorb the coenzyme gradually and comfortably. Some patients may start with shorter infusions that gradually increase in duration with subsequent sessions. This extended time is necessary for NAD+ to effectively reach cells and deliver its benefits for energy production, brain function, and cellular repair.

NAD+ Pricing

Due to the specific nature and dosage of NAD+, when adding it to your IV therapy, it requires its own separate bag of fluids. This ensures the most effective delivery and optimal absorption of NAD+ for maximum benefits.

1 Liter of IV Fluid = $80 with an additional charge for the NAD+ dose priced at $1/mg (25 mg = $25, 50 mg = $50, 75 mg = $75, etc)

FAQs

What is an IV?

IV stands for intravenous, which means within the vein. We administer IV hydration by inserting a tiny catheter directly into your vein, enabling us to hydrate you more efficiently than drinking water alone. Though there may be a brief prick from a small needle, once the vein is accessed, the needle is removed, leaving only the plastic catheter in place.

What is IV therapy?

IV therapy is a quick way of delivering fluids, vitamins, and minerals directly into the bloodstream. This direct route ensures that your body absorbs 100% of the nutrients, whereas orally consumed vitamins typically experience only about 20% absorption due to the digestive process. It's important to note that our services are intended to supplement, not replace, oral hydration.

Is IV therapy safe?

IV infusion therapy, conducted by licensed experts, ensures safe delivery of essential nutrients with superior bioavailability. Prior to therapy, it's crucial to disclose any allergies or health concerns to mitigate potential complications. Our registered nurses, supervised by a medical provider, administer all IVs after evaluating clients' health histories. While side effects like discomfort, bruising, or mild inflammation may occur occasionally, true allergic reactions are exceedingly rare.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects of IV therapy are typically minimal, with occasional discomfort, bruising, redness, itching, or inflammation at the injection site, lasting from minutes to days. True allergic reactions are exceedingly rare. However, if you experience symptoms like throat swelling, body rash, severe drop in blood pressure, or signs of anaphylaxis after receiving an injection, seek immediate medical attention at the nearest emergency department. If you're aware of allergies to any ingredients, it's crucial to inform our staff and avoid the treatment.

How long does it take?

The entire process can take up to 90 minutes to complete, this includes paperwork and review of medical history and allergy information.

How often should I receive IV therapy?

While our standard recommendation is monthly infusions, many clients opt for more frequent sessions based on their unique wellness objectives. The frequency of treatment varies depending on individual health requirements and the type of therapy, with some individuals receiving weekly sessions while others choose treatments as needed.

Will my insurance pay for IV therapy?

Unfortunately insurance does not cover IV therapy.

Who should not receive IV therapy?

IV therapy hasn't undergone comprehensive testing for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Exceptions may be made for pregnant individuals experiencing severe morning sickness. However, it is highly recommended to consult your primary health care provider prior to receiving any treatment. Individuals with kidney or heart disease are at high risk and should avoid IV therapy due to their inability to efficiently eliminate electrolytes and minerals from the body, leading to potentially dangerous electrolyte imbalances, especially with potassium. Additionally, those with G6PD deficiency should avoid high doses of vitamin C during IV therapy, as it can trigger hemolytic anemia, causing the breakdown of red blood cells.
